New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church Leadership
New Hope Cumberland Presbyterian Church is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following are brief bio's of our leadership team and their qualifications for ministry.
Reverend Donny Acton
Senior Pastor
Reverend Donny Acton has been the pastor of New Hope CPC for the past twenty-seven years. Pastor Donny grew up in the Birmingham area and attended the Rocky Ridge CPC as his childhood church. It was there that he gave his life to the Lord at the age of twelve. After getting his Bachelor’s Degree at Bethel College (now University), he earned his Master’s of Divinity at Memphis Theological Seminary. He has traveled doing evangelism and revivals throughout the southeast. He pastored in north Alabama for a couple of years and before being called to New Hope in March of 1993. Since then, Donny has led the church to relocate from its original building to its current location. The church body has grown and transformed greatly over the last twenty-seven years under Pastor Donny’s leadership. Donny has led New Hope in many outreaches to the lost here in the Valley and beyond. From Biker Weekends for the motorcycle enthusiasts to various Halloween evangelistic events, New Hope has brought the Gospel to many and varied people groups over the years. Pastor Donny believes greatly that the church should always be open and used. There are Bible study groups meeting there weekly as well as all kinds of other community based events throughout the months.
Since accepting the call, Donny and his wife, who is an associate pastor at New Hope, have had three sons, all born while at New Hope. They have raised their sons at New Hope along with many other young people. Donny is an antique car enthusiast. He greatly enjoys watching his sons play soccer. Pastor Donny is a family man and a man of the community. He is well known and admired throughout Shelby County. His chaplaincy work with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and Cahaba Valley Fire Department, and his holding the Poll Inspector position for our voting precinct are just a few ways our pastor keeps the pulse of our county and community in his heart.
Reverend Mindy Acton
Associate Pastor
Reverend Mindy Acton is an associate pastor at New Hope. She has been in ministry alongside her husband of thirty-two years since the beginning. She has continued to work beside him at New Hope over the twenty-seven years they have been there. Mindy has worked in evangelism, Christian education, youth ministry, young adults, children’s ministry, counseling, and various other ministries as the Lord has revealed over the years. She has enjoyed doing many types of ministry. Some of her strongest passions have been missions/evangelism and Bible teaching. Over the years, Mindy has been on mission trips through New Hope and other Christian Ministries. Mindy has also taught Bible to every age level from nursery all the way to senior adult’s classes and every age in between. She thrives in theology and doctrinal learning and teaching. Mindy earned her Bachelor’s of Science at Samford University in Food Sciences/Dietetics. She later earned her ordination through Memphis Theological Seminary.
Mindy and Donny have three sons, Avery, Ethan, and Seth. Mindy homeschooled all three sons throughout their twelve years of primary education. Teaching is one of her strongest gifts. All three sons have graduated high school with honors. She enjoys anything involving her family, especially their soccer. Traveling throughout the Southern Region of the United States with her sons to see them play soccer at the highest levels has made her a true “soccer mom.” Their eldest son, Avery and wife, Sofi, are expecting their first child and Mindy and Donny’s first grandchild. She is thrilled at the coming of her granddaughter whom she cannot wait to love, spoil, and influence towards the Lord. Ethan is their second born. He played collegiate soccer at the University of West Alabama until he transferred his soccer to the semi-professional team, FC Birmingham. Seth, the youngest, is graduating high school and will attend the University of Montevallo on academic and athletic scholarships.
